Weather Forecast for Spain – 24 September

MADRID/SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS)

This Thursday, the Canary Islands will experience generally overcast intervals, with a slight possibility of light rain, particularly in the northern mountainous regions during the morning, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

From midday onwards, the southern areas will become increasingly cloudy, with occasional showers possible.

The temperatures will see minimal variation, ranging from a maximum of 27 degrees in Tenerife to a minimum of 18 degrees in El Hierro.

Winds will be light to moderate, coming from the north.

Weather Across Spain

The weather on Thursday will be characterised by locally heavy rainfall along the Catalan coast, with Barcelona under a warning for rain of up to 20 litres per square metre (l/m²).

AEMET forecasts that most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will maintain stable conditions, with predominantly clear or slightly cloudy skies. Only the northeastern part of Catalonia is expected to see overcast skies with potential heavy rain along the central coast, as well as lighter rainfall in the eastern Cantabrian region.

Occasional heavy showers are also likely in Mallorca and Menorca. During the first half of the day, low cloud cover will develop over extensive areas in the northern and eastern parts of the Peninsula, as well as in Melilla and the Strait, with a chance of light drizzle.

In the afternoon, cloud cover will evolve in the Levante and southern mountain ranges, with showers expected in eastern Andalucia, which may reach parts of the Valencia Region later on. In the Canary Islands, overcast skies or cloudy intervals are expected, along with light and scattered rain that will likely decrease.

Additionally, morning fog is anticipated in the interior regions of the northern and southeastern parts of the Peninsula, with more extensive fog expected in the Upper Ebro and the northeastern Meseta.

As for maximum temperatures, little change is expected in the Canary Islands, the southern third, and the extreme northeastern regions of the Peninsula. In other areas, temperatures will rise slightly to moderately. Minimum temperatures are expected to increase in the eastern part of the Southern Meseta and the extreme eastern Iberian region, while remaining largely unchanged elsewhere. Light frost is anticipated in the Pyrenees and scattered across other northern mountain areas.

Finally, moderate easterly winds will blow along the western Cantabrian coast and northern Galicia, in the Strait, and across the southern Mediterranean region. The trade winds in the Canary Islands will also be moderate, with potential strong north-easterly winds in Ampurdán and initially in the Ebro valley. In the Balearic Islands, winds will be light to moderate from the north and east, while elsewhere, light winds will predominantly come from the north and west.
