The Chilegua Trail 2025, one of the most highly anticipated and significant Trail Running events in the Canary Islands’ sports calendar, was officially launched at the Hotel H10 Tindaya in Costa Calma. Maintaining the adventurous spirit of its previous two editions, this year’s event aims to surpass last year’s participation of over 300 runners.

The village of La Pared in the municipality of Pájara will host an event on Saturday, 11th October that transcends sport, transforming into a unique natural and cultural experience with athletes from all the islands and up to eight different nationalities.

Race Categories

The prestigious mountain race is divided into several categories. The Half features a route of 25.3 kilometres with approximately 1,000 metres of positive elevation. Meanwhile, the Promo consists of roughly 11 kilometres with over 400 metres of positive elevation, making it ideal for those seeking a less demanding challenge.

The Mini/Hiking category is aimed at athletes aged 14 and above, offering 7 kilometres with around 280 metres of elevation. This presents an excellent option for hiking or the fast-paced variant. Finally, the Children’s (Sparkids) segment is designed for younger participants, encompassing a distance of 1 to 5 kilometres in the Valle de La Pared.

Registration Details

The registration period will remain open until 3rd October, with the possibility of extending the deadline for participation in one of the finest Trail Running events in the archipelago. Registration can be completed via the official website ChileguaTrail.com.

Official Statements

The Sports Councillor of the Pájara City Council, José Benito Alonso, described the race as “an event designed for all ages. It is filled with landscape, culture, nature, and a commitment to environmental well-being. The Chilegua Trail invites enjoyment; it has significant economic returns and enhances the image of the municipality of Pájara.”

The Sports Councillor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Luis González, emphasised the key pillars of an event that clearly holds island-wide interest. “It is organised by a local company with talent, which helps to energise and value the island’s communities while focusing on the runner.”

Guacimara Cabrera, president of the Fuerteventura Business Association, Excelfuert, revealed the formula for success: “Combining sport with business collaboration to achieve social welfare and environmental health is key. It is equally important to fill the gap in the southern area with significant projects.”

More Than a Sporting Event

The Chilegua Trail embodies respect for the environment, sustainability, coexistence, and a passion for sport. It offers thrilling experiences, incomparable landscapes, and encounters with nature. Aside from the athletic challenge, the race is characterised by its commitment to sustainability and the natural environment, adhering to minimal environmental impact rules, promoting recycling, and maintaining responsibility and ethics in the mountains. In fact, the event has received the green charter from the International Trail Running Association.

The director of the H10 Tindaya and host of the event presentation, Lorena Navarro, expressed her pride in hosting this gathering and collaborating on a race that has a positive environmental impact and involves numerous individuals from the sporting realm.

One of the participants, Margarita Mikhaltsova, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to repeat her experience in a race that left a lasting impression in 2024: “For me, running last year was incredible; I finished in third place, and I am very happy to repeat the experience and improve my results.”

Lastly, Néstor Rodríguez, the organiser of the popular trail race, anticipated “sustained growth for the event with the same philosophy as always: a firm commitment to equality, with 45% of participants being women, to bring the best trail experience possible to the island.”

The Chilegua Trail 25 is organised by Alisios Gestión Sociodeportiva SL, sponsored by H10 Hotels, Padilla Supermercados Spar, Excelfuert, and Lope Asesores, and is supported by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura through its Department of Sports, the Pájara City Council via its Sports Council, and the Fuerteventura Athletics Federation.
