Tribute to Andrés Stinga: A Key Figure in Politics
“In politics, as in life, there are people who change everything. Not because they impose themselves, not because they shout louder or seek the spotlight, but because they are there. They are present when hard work and discretion are required, they are there when things go well and we are allowed to celebrate, and they are, above all, there when it is necessary to step up and make difficult decisions. Andrés Stinga has been, for me, one of those indispensable individuals. Andrés has been a right-hand man and a comrade in battles.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have many hands pushing with me, valuable, committed, and generous men and women, and Andrés has been a constant presence, loyal and always willing to give his best.
Andrés has been by my side during all the significant stages of my political life: when I had the honour of being the mayor of San Bartolomé, and later as president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Always, unconditionally. Always committed and generous.
I could speak of his management skills, his seriousness at work, and his dedication to public service. I could highlight his knowledge of procedures, his meticulous way of doing things correctly, and his sense of responsibility. All of this is true. But what sets Andrés apart cannot be summed up in a CV. It is measured in trust. With the assurance that, in the face of every challenge, he would be there, bringing calm, discretion, and unquestionable efficiency.
Andrés is one of those who are there from the very first minute. From the initial idea to the final task. And also when it required facing responsibilities and bearing the weight of complex decisions. He has been a pillar in tough times and a quiet joy in our shared successes.
Together we faced especially difficult moments: a period of austerity in San Bartolomé, a consequence of a previous management that left more problems than solutions; an unprecedented pandemic that demanded tough decisions every day. In each of those instances, there were some words of his that still echo in my memory: ‘This will turn out well, girl.’ And with his calmness and support, it always did. But not only did it turn out well: each challenge also forged a stronger bond, a firmer trust, and a loyalty that may have been quiet but was always there.
This recognition is not solely mine. It is shared by all those who have worked with him and understand that there is no role or task too small when one possesses a true sense of public service. Andrés embodies that. He represents the best of politics: dedication, commitment, and humility. This is a recognition from all the PSOE of Lanzarote.
Thank you, Andrés. For your work, for your loyalty, for your humanity. And above all, for being that unforgettable companion on this journey.
You are now beginning a new chapter, and I wish you all the best. I know you will remain the same: approachable, hardworking, and loyal. Thank you, dear friend, the truly closest. It has been a privilege to walk alongside you.”
