AENA Begins Acoustic Insulation Works in Playa Honda Homes to Enhance Residents’ Quality of Life

After several years of demands from the Council and local residents, AENA begins acoustic insulation works in homes in this coastal area of San Bartolomé, close to César Manrique Airport

The San Bartolomé Council welcomes the commencement of acoustic insulation works for residences in Playa Honda. This initiative has been long advocated by both the Council and the community to AENA and will significantly enhance the quality of life for those living in this coastal region.

For many years, residents of Playa Honda have endured the effects of air traffic, dramatically affecting their daily lives due to the volume and continuity of airport noise.

Aware of this issue, the San Bartolomé Council has embarked on various institutional actions to ensure that AENA, the entity responsible for César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, assumes compensatory measures to mitigate the acoustic impact. They established a dedicated office to advise, manage, and process residents’ requests, directly channelling complaints to the relevant authority.

The Mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, who has visited some of the homes where work has begun, applauds AENA for finally addressing this long-standing demand. He stated that this initiative highlights the importance of institutional collaboration and the persistence of residents, progressing towards a fair solution that will ensure Playa Honda has appropriate acoustic conditions for the daily lives of its inhabitants.

The works are being carried out by AENA through a contracted company.

Victoriano Antonio Rocío, Councillor for Economics and Finance, detailed that according to the official data from the San Bartolomé Council, “a total of 903 residences in the municipality have the right to request insulation, of which 632 have formally submitted their requests. Currently, 601 homes have received a positive technical report, 564 have submitted acoustic insulation projects, and 366 have provided complete documentation to the management office, with 37 homes having approved funding.”

As part of the overall plan, AENA began this summer with interventions on 48 homes, while others are in the acceptance phase by owners or undergoing technical evaluation, with a second phase of works slated to begin in early 2026.

Mayor Isidro Pérez clarified that this is a lengthy and complex process, subject to technical and administrative procedures, but that “the priority of the San Bartolomé Council’s governing team is to continue working tirelessly with AENA until the more than 900 families entitled to acoustic insulation can secure their wellbeing.”

In this regard, the San Bartolomé Council wishes to thank AENA for its willingness to maintain ongoing dialogue to expedite these initiatives as much as possible.
