Agreement Reduces Sentence from 20 to 13 Years for Rape Conviction in Tenerife

The Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the defence of the accused have reached an agreement to reduce the prison sentence from 20 to 13 years for crimes of rape, robbery with violence, and minor injuries.

Additionally, the compensation of €30,000 to the victim’s children, who later died as a result of the events, remains unchanged.

Crimes and Sentences

Under the agreement, the sentence is broken down into nine years for rape, four years for robbery with violence, and a fine of €720 for minor injuries.

The trial, initially scheduled for last July, will now take place on 29 September at the Provincial Court of Tenerife via videoconference.

Account of Events

According to the Prosecutor’s statement, the accused accessed an apartment by climbing a wall 1.93 meters high. Once inside, he punched the woman in the eye, dragged her to the bedroom, and there sexually assaulted her up to seven times.

Subsequently, taking advantage of the fear instilled in the victim, he stole a mobile phone, €3,500 in cash, three pieces of jewellery, and the keys to the residence.

The woman sustained injuries to her eye, right leg, and left thigh.

Arrest and Prior Offences

The accused was arrested on the Peninsula and released the same day. Later, a Tenerife court issued a search and capture order.

After being located, he was additionally charged with a public health offence, leading to his provisional imprisonment and subsequent release.
