Workshops, cooking demonstrations, cultural routes and music will fill the fair, which features around twenty stalls from local associations, producers, merchants, and artisans.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has launched the first edition of AgroFuer, part of the ‘Strong through Nature’ programme, promoted by the Department of Tourism and funded by the Next Generation EU financial instruments. The fair includes around twenty stalls due to the participation of local associations, producers, merchants, and artisans.
This project is developed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through the Department of Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce, thanks to a partnership agreement aimed at linking the growth of the tourism sector with the development of rural communities.
The initiative seeks to energise the economy of rural areas and promote the consumption of locally sourced products, featuring a comprehensive programme of activities that will take place throughout the weekend. It aims to become a meeting point for the primary sector, gastronomy, and the popular culture of Fuerteventura.
Present at the inaugural event were the island president, Lola García, the tourism councillor, Marlene Figueroa, the mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura, Juan Jesús Rodríguez.
President Lola García welcomed an event that promotes the economy of rural areas and encourages the consumption of local products, stating, “A space that unites our gastronomy, craftsmanship, and culture.”
Meanwhile, Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa remarked that “AgroFuer showcases gastronomy, local products, and craftsmanship, highlighting the tourism sector’s chain that should not solely focus on sun and beach activities.” She added, “This celebrates a partnership through the Department of Tourism and the Destination Sustainability Plan, aimed at ensuring local products are also part of the destination.”
The mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, stated, “Today we celebrate the effort and work of the men and women from the fields, the sea, and the craftsmanship, showcasing the best products from the island.”
Additionally, Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura, emphasised that AgroFuer represents an opportunity to revitalise rural economies by leveraging synergies with the tourism sector. “We are convinced that this initiative will benefit all sectors,” he added.
Also present at the opening ceremony were the Commerce Councillor Lolina Negrín, Tourism councillor Dulce García, primary sector councillor Jonathan Peña, along with other island and municipal representatives.
