The Playa de El Reducto in Arrecife witnessed a spectacular finale to the patron saint festivities of Lanzarote’s capital on Sunday 25 August, the Day of San Ginés. This unforgettable concert was performed by the Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández, attracting around 70,000 attendees, and was followed by a magnificent fireworks display, marking a glorious conclusion to the celebrations organised by the Town Hall in honour of the city’s patron.

Both the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Festivals, Echedey Eugenio, highlighted the overwhelming success in terms of attendance, organisation, and the positive public response to the festivities. They expressed gratitude to the citizens for their exemplary behaviour, which ensured a safe, engaging, and vibrant celebration along the seafront—among other venues—where Arrecife originated as a port, city, and capital.

Yonathan de León described the night as “epic,” with a completely packed Playa de El Reducto, an unprecedented turnout that reinforces the Municipal Government’s commitment to elevating the San Ginés festivities to the quality they deserve as the third most important capital in the Canary Islands.

He also expressed gratitude for the resounding applause from the thousands in attendance after Alejandro Fernández’s concert and the spectacular fireworks display, indicating that the community supports Arrecife as a joyful, lively city with quality festivities.

Historic Celebrations

Both Yonathan de León and Echedey Eugenio acknowledged the coordinated efforts of all Municipal Departments and their staff, recognising that the 2025 San Ginés Festivities can be considered historic due to their brilliant execution, quality of events, and overall spectacle.

In this regard, Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio expressed his satisfaction with the program, which for the third consecutive year has been developed by the Festivals Department in coordination with other Municipal Areas, highlighting that it has shone as Arrecife deserves, given its status as a significant capital in the Canary Islands.

Furthermore, Echedey Eugenio emphasised in a press release that the Town Hall of Arrecife has “reclaimed the traditional essence of our festivities, adapting them to the vibrant city we are today, and revitalised our Marina as a gathering point for local residents and the island.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Tourism, Trade, and Sports, Eli Merino, whose department collaborated on the final show of Alejandro Fernández’s performance to reinforce Arrecife’s status as a hub for events, highlighted that “the objective was achieved. Alejandro Fernández concluded his tour of Spain in Arrecife, placing our capital and Lanzarote as destinations where we fuse tourism, culture, and leisure.”

Eli Merino noted that-Arrecife’s tourist establishments had filled to capacity with the grand finale of the festivities, and as evidenced last night at Playa de El Reducto, many attendees travelled specifically to Lanzarote from afar, boosting the island’s economy through the well-planned programme of festivities featuring high-level sports and musical events, epitomised by Alejandro Fernández’s concert.

During the concert, the Mexican singer, known as ‘El Potrillo,’ showcased his unmistakable voice and charisma in an emotionally charged evening, masterfully blending his pop ballad hits with rancheras, continuing the musical tradition inherited from his father, Vicente Fernández.

Two Hours of Entertainment

Over more than two hours of entertainment, the audience sang along to classics like ‘Me dediqué a perderte’, ‘Como quien pierde una estrella’, and ‘Abrázame,’ alongside powerful renditions of rancheras such as ‘Mujeres divinas’ and ‘El Rey’, which drew enthusiastic applause. During the most touching moments, Fernández donned a charro suit, igniting waves of applause from the crowd.

With over 30 years of experience, more than 35 million records sold, and an international tour that maintains his status as a leading figure in Latin music, Alejandro Fernández demonstrated in Arrecife why he is one of the most beloved and respected voices on the global stage.

The concert was not only a musical journey through the career of one of the world’s most recognised Latino artists but also a moment of unity and collective celebration, beautifully closing the patron saint festivities of Lanzarote’s capital.
