Alert Issued Due to Wildfire Risks in the Canary Islands

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Emergency Alert Declared

The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has declared a state of alert in the western islands and Gran Canaria due to the risk of wildfires. This decision is based on available information and the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response for Forest Fires in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA).

Heatwave Conditions Expected

In these five islands, a heat episode is anticipated, with maximum temperatures likely to reach or exceed between 30ºC and 36ºC, alongside a temperature inversion below 400 metres in altitude.

Humidity and Winds

Relative humidity will range between 20% and 40% above 500 metres, with the presence of calima (saharan dust). Winds will blow from the east and southeast in midlands, high areas, and peaks, with moderate to light intensity expected starting Thursday.

Pre-alert for Other Weather Phenomena

Additionally, the Canary Island government has declared a pre-alert for calima, winds, coastal phenomena, and high temperatures.
