SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 16 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has decided to maintain, from 14:30 hours this Saturday, the alert situation for maximum temperatures on the island of Gran Canaria, except in the northern area below 400 metres in altitude. The rest of the islands will be under a pre-alert situation.
Specifically, in the island of La Palma, the situation will place the municipalities of Garafía, Puntagorda, Tijarafe, Los Llanos de Aridane, El Paso, Tazacorte and Fuencaliente on pre-alert. However, the northern area of El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife, below 600 metres in altitude, will be exempt from this situation.
This decision is made in light of the forecast for the persistence of the high temperature episode that began on 6 August. The warmest values are expected to be recorded inland, in the midlands, and in high areas, as clarified by the regional department in a statement issued to the media.
Specifically, maximum temperatures are expected to reach or even exceed 30 – 34º in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and the western islands, while 32 – 36º is expected in Gran Canaria.
In contrast, according to the regional department, normal summer values will be recorded in the eastern half of La Palma, in areas situated below 600 metres in altitude in the north of El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife, and in areas below 400 metres in the north of Gran Canaria.
