This Saturday, Arrecife held one of the central events of its patronal festivities with the traditional offering to San Ginés, the city’s patron saint. From the early hours of the morning, the streets of the historic centre filled with people to accompany a procession that began at Cuatro Esquinas and concluded at the Boca del Muelle Chico, where the offering took place before the image of the Saint.
The parade featured the participation of the San Cristóbal Folkloric Group from Gran Canaria, the Princess Iraya Folkloric Group from Tenerife, and the Choirs and Dances of Arrecife. The Aturuxo Folkloric Group from Galicia also joined, presenting a special performance in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park.
Local residents, visitors, and institutional representatives gathered to attend the event, which was presided over by the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Councillor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, alongside other members of the council. The ceremony was led by Parish Priest Juan Carlos Medina and was marked by emotion and respect.
The day continued at the Recova Municipal, where the participating groups shared a gathering to exchange recognitions and express their gratitude to the Town Hall and the Cabildo for their support in promoting folklore and traditions.
Local authorities emphasised the importance of keeping these celebrations alive, which year after year reinforce the cultural identity of the capital and establish the San Ginés festivities as a cornerstone in Lanzarote.
