The Main Church of San Ginés hosted a solemn Eucharistic celebration today, Monday, 25th August, in honour of Saint Ginés, Bishop, followed by a procession through the streets of the city centre, attended by hundreds of devoted parishioners.

Both the Mayor, Yonathan de León, and the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio—who were present at both events alongside other public officials—express their gratitude to the citizens for their support, along with civil and military authorities, during this religious celebration on the Feast Day of the Patron Saint of Arrecife.

Yonathan de León noted that Arrecife became the capital of Lanzarote thanks to the existence of the parish of San Ginés, which led to the establishment of Arrecife as a municipality and, from the second half of the 19th century, as the island’s capital. The Mayor emphasised that “the history of Arrecife is intertwined with Saint Ginés, and today the city celebrates him on his grand day.”

In turn, Echedey Eugenio highlighted “the citizen involvement and institutional support demonstrated during this day, which showcases the fervour towards the patron saint of our city,” and noted “the high participation observed in the religious celebrations for the Saint Ginés Festivities, mirroring the turnout for other scheduled activities.”

The Eucharist was presided over by Aday Josué García Jiménez, parish priest of San Diego de Alcalá (Tuineje) and archpriest of Fuerteventura, while the procession featured the accompaniment of the Banda Unión Musical de Lanzarote.
