Interested parties have 15 days to submit applications at the Arrecife Town Hall Registry
The Arrecife Town Hall has announced a new call for applications for the municipal permit that will allow individuals to drive taxis in the capital of Lanzarote. This marks the fifth announcement during the current term of Mayor Yonathan de León and Councillor Mari González Altube, who is directly responsible for the Department of Mobility and Transport.
The electronic headquarters of the Arrecife Town Hall has published the official announcement from the Department of Transport and Mobility, which opens the application period for individuals wishing to participate in the new competency tests aimed at obtaining the Municipal Taxi Driver Permit in the Municipality of Arrecife.
Mayor Yonathan de León has highlighted that this sector, which provides direct employment to nearly 500 families, is creating numerous job opportunities. He encourages those who wish to find work and build a future in this field to register for the new examination call promoted by the Department of Transport and Mobility of the Arrecife Town Hall.
The tests are organised and called by the Department of Transport and Mobility. This new assessment marks the fifth call aimed at ensuring that the taxi sector is staffed with qualified professionals capable of working in the taxis of Arrecife.
Councillor Mario González Altube has detailed that the sector has requested, during periodic meetings, the need for new exams to cover the demands of three daily shifts throughout the entire year, thereby strengthening the presence of these vehicles at stops in the neighbourhoods.
According to the industry, the recent dynamism in Arrecife’s commerce, leisure, and tourism sectors has led to an increased demand for public transport services via taxis for both residents and tourists.
Application Period Open for 15 Days
Interested individuals have 15 working days to submit their applications at the Arrecife Town Hall Registry, starting from 12 September, following its publication on the announcement board of the Town Hall’s electronic headquarters. This online announcement includes the application form, required documentation, and the examination regulations.
Improving Taxi Transportation: A Municipal Government Objective
Councillor Mario González Altube has stated that during this initial part of the term, the Town Hall has been implementing various measures, agreed upon with the sector, that are progressively improving taxi services in the capital. The recent update to fare structures since last spring allows municipal licence holders to hire more employees to increase the shifts and rotations of taxis, particularly in the neighbourhoods of Arrecife.
Additionally, the fleet now includes two new adapted vehicles equipped with ramps for transporting passengers with reduced mobility or those travelling in wheelchairs. These vehicles were funded through a subsidy initiated by the Arrecife Municipal Government, led by Mayor Yonathan de León.
Submission of Applications
The application and accompanying documentation must be addressed to the Mayor of this Corporation and submitted to the General Registry of the Hon. Town Hall of Arrecife within FIFTEEN working days from the day following the publication of this announcement on the Town Hall’s notice board and, where applicable, its electronic headquarters, without prejudice to the provisions of Article 16 of Law 39/2015 on Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
The Examinations
The first examination will consist of a multiple-choice or short-answer format, with a maximum duration of one and a half hours, to be provided by the Board on the day of the examination, in accordance with Article 18.2 of the Municipal Taxi Service Regulation of the Arrecife Town Hall.
The second exercise will involve an individual practical test, where each candidate must identify, locate, and, if applicable, describe the historical significance of ten public places or points of interest designated by the Board on the examination day.
