Citizen Participation in Arrecife Launches a Workshop for Collective Improvement Proposals

The Citizen Participation Department of Arrecife City Council, led by Cathaysa Suárez, has initiated the PARTICIPA Workshop. This innovative initiative aims to engage residents in creating a closer, more inclusive, and participatory municipality.

A Space for Participatory Democracy

As the councillor explained, “With this proposal, we strengthen our commitment to participatory democracy by offering residents a space where we can work together to create a better municipality.”

The PARTICIPA Workshop is supported by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and is designed for citizens to develop, discuss, and present collective improvement proposals for the city.

Methodology and Format

The workshop will consist of 20 certified hours and will be conducted in both in-person and online formats, facilitating maximum participation. Furthermore, the methodology of participatory budgeting will be employed, allowing attendees to work in teams to define concrete actions with a real impact on the municipality.

From Ideas to Projects

One of the key features is that the most voted proposals by participants will be implemented by the City Council, ensuring that citizens’ ideas are transformed into effective projects that benefit the community.

Start Date and Registration

The programme will commence on 16 September 2025 and aims to promote a culture of citizen engagement in local decision-making. Interested individuals can register by calling 634 271 830.
