Abigail González, Councillor: “From Cultura Arrecife, we will continue to promote the work of local artists to bring it closer to the community”
The inauguration will take place at 7 p.m. this Friday, 5th September, and will remain open until 18th October
The Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz in Arrecife will host the inauguration of the exhibition by Lanzarote artist JUIN, titled ‘You Have Also Rained. How to Navigate Pain’, at 7 p.m. on Friday, 5th September. This exhibition was selected as part of the cultural project call by the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote 2025 and is curated by Tenerife-based Elena García.
Abigail González, the councillor responsible for this area at the Arrecife City Council, states, “From Cultura Arrecife, we will continue to promote the work of local artists to bring it closer to the entire community.” She encourages everyone to enjoy this exhibition, which will remain open until 18th October. JUIN, a muralist, abstract painter, and illustrator, offers the audience an emotional journey structured into four chapters: denial, entry into pain, confrontation, and calm.
The project invites the audience and is inspired by the dynamic of ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ books, allowing each visitor to become the protagonist of their own experience. While painting is the main focus, JUIN also incorporates audiovisual pieces and installations that expand the sensory experience.
Argana Baja and La Vega
Graduated in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna and co-founder of the Colectivo Desidia, where he promotes collaborative initiatives related to island cultural development, JUIN has already participated in several projects within the city alongside Cultura Arrecife, such as the first mural circuit developed by Desidia in Argana Baja and the creation of the mural ‘Inclusion and Diversity’ at the La Vega Sociocultural Centre to commemorate International LGTBI+ Pride Day.
In addition to his solo exhibitions—Onironauta (2018), B-asalto (2020), and Salsa Rosa (2023)—JUIN has also participated in the X Biennial of Art of Lanzarote and in international residencies such as Plataforma Caníbal (Colombia, 2023). His work focuses on the body as a space for reflection, employing colour and gesture to explore emotionality from a free and critical perspective.
