National Police agents have arrested a 45-year-old man in Puerto del Rosario as the alleged perpetrator of a drug trafficking offence, after being caught with two kilograms of cocaine and 100 euros in cash hidden under the passenger seat of a hire vehicle.
The arrest took place on 31 July during a joint operation by the Narcotics Group of the Local Police Station of Puerto del Rosario and the Drug and Organised Crime Unit (UDYCO) of Las Palmas. The action is part of an investigation launched after it was detected that the suspect was using transport companies to send packages from Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura, disguising the drugs as if they were legitimate goods.
According to the Police, the agents saw the man collect a package at a logistics warehouse on the island. He then headed to a hire vehicle and started driving, at which point he was intercepted. During the search of the car, investigators found two packages of cocaine hidden under the passenger seat and 100 euros in cash concealed in a bag.
After the arrest, the necessary procedures were carried out and the man was taken into custody by the relevant judicial authority.
The National Police emphasises that this type of operation strengthens the force’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the archipelago, highlighting the coordination between local and specialised units as a key element in dismantling these illegal activities.
