Two men involved in a theft of eyewear, watches, and clothing valued at €16,000

  • The Civil Guard of the Main Station in Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, has arrested two men for a property crime that occurred at the end of June. The individuals stole eyewear, watches, and clothing from a well-known establishment belonging to a chain of brand-name stores, with the total value of the stolen goods estimated at around €16,000.

According to the Civil Guard, the operation began following an alert from the store’s alarm system. Security cameras captured two individuals dressed entirely in black, with hooded garments obscuring their identities, as they placed merchandise into rubbish bags.

By the time the patrol arrived at the scene, the perpetrators had already fled, leaving no trace or fingerprints to aid in their identification.

Given the complexity of the case, the Investigation Area of the Main Station in Morro Jable took over the inquiry, extending the search to security footage not only from the establishment but also from neighbouring shops, as the theft occurred in a busy commercial area.

Officers concluded that the theft was not a spontaneous act but a premeditated plan. The suspects managed to steal 113 pairs of sunglasses, 21 watches, and 27 items of clothing from recognised brands.

After several weeks of investigation, the combined analysis of evidence and static surveillance devices allowed the police to narrow down the suspects’ area of residence.

Ultimately, the authorities located the suspects’ home, where they conducted identification procedures and made the arrests.

The detainees, along with the relevant documentation, have been placed at the disposal of the Magistrate’s Court in Puerto del Rosario.

However, the investigation is ongoing with the aim of recovering all stolen items, and further arrests related to this incident cannot be ruled out.
