Arucas Council Imposes €9,000 Fine and Seizes Dangerous Dogs
The Arucas Council, located in Gran Canaria, has initiated a sanctioning procedure against a resident of Montaña de Cardones. He has been fined €9,000 and ordered to surrender two potentially dangerous dogs following several incidents of aggression towards other animals.
Documented Incidents
According to the Department of the Environment, the actions, substantiated through police reports and community complaints, involve at least three serious attacks. One incident was particularly violent, where a dangerous breed dog bit another dog for an extended period, causing considerable injuries and also putting its owner at risk while attempting to intervene.
Furthermore, local witnesses have indicated that these same animals were involved in previous attacks, even allegedly leading to the deaths of two dogs in the area.
Regulatory Violations
Municipal investigations have confirmed that the dogs were unlicensed, lacked microchips, did not have a health certificate, and were not vaccinated as required, thus repeatedly violating existing regulations.
In addition, the dogs were either walked or remained in public spaces without muzzles or safety measures, significantly increasing the risk of aggression.
As a result, the Arucas Council has announced the immediate and precautionary seizure of the two dogs, which will be relocated and kept in municipal custody until the sanctioning procedure is definitively resolved.
