The President of the organisation, Beatriz Salazar, anticipates that the operation, still pending evaluation by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), “will strengthen the service, making it much more competitive for a more cohesive archipelago.”

Beatriz Salazar, President of the Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL), is optimistic that the purchase of Naviera Armas-Trasmediterránea by Baleària will secure and enhance maritime connectivity in the Canary Islands. She expects this operation to provide “stability and guarantees for sea transport, which is crucial in a fragmented territory like the islands.” Her analysis follows the formalisation of the acquisition agreement concerning the company’s operations and traffic in the archipelago, the Alboran Sea, and part of the Strait.

Strengthening Regional Services

Beatriz Salazar believes that the operation, which must now be evaluated by the CNMC, “will bolster the service for transporting people, vehicles, and goods at a regional level, making it much more competitive for greater territorial cohesion.”

Modernising Island Transport

Furthermore, she indicates that this operation could lead to an increased offer and the modernisation of shipping between the islands, resulting in improvements to the fleet and its technological resources. “We believe that rates and frequencies should maintain the essence that has always characterised Naviera Armas, which is committed to maritime connectivity, tourism, and the positioning of a strategic sector,” says Beatriz Salazar.

New Opportunities for Human Capital

The President of CEL emphasises the expectation that this transaction will also generate new opportunities for the human capital and collaborators of the company, aligning with its revaluation. “Everything should proceed in the interest of a more stable market that maintains the positive valuation of citizens towards this comfortable, sustainable mode of transport accessible to all.”
