San Ginés Handball Tournament Kicks Off with Dominant Win
The XLVIII San Ginés Handball Tournament commenced on Friday afternoon with a match between Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife and Balonmano Ingenio. These two teams will face each other again this season in the National Men’s First Division. San José Obrero demonstrated that they are gradually finding their rhythm, achieving a decisive victory by playing with remarkable speed throughout the game.
Balonmano Lanzarote quickly took the lead, with Adrián Juárez and Aday González scoring the first two goals. These came from fast attacking transitions by the home team, indicating that this could be a key characteristic of their play this season. The Lanzarote side extended their advantage to five goals in the opening minutes (12-7).
Balonmano Ingenio aimed to stay competitive, reducing their deficit to three goals at one point. Several turnovers by the home team allowed Luis Hernández and Bentor Déniz to score (13-10). Ángel Iglesias, Abián Martín, and Aco Martín then increased the score to 16-10, prompting a timeout from the Balonmano Ingenio coach. By the end of the first half, the score stood at 22-12.
The second half of the match was largely uneventful due to the significant score difference. David Betancort capitalised on this opportunity to give all players minutes, splitting them into two different line-ups for the first and last fifteen minutes. The players from Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife maintained their intensity and continued to increase their lead.
The final score was 40 to 24, marking the first victory for Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife in the XLVIII San Ginés Handball Tournament. The tournament will continue on Saturday with a match between Desatascos Jumbo Gáldar and Balonmano Ingenio, starting at 18:00.
Prior to this, Balonmano Lanzarote will face “Sermarther” Ciudad de Tacoronte in the opening round of the Copa Gobierno de Canarias.
