Local Gofio Wins Top Honour at Agrocanarias 2025

The medium-roasted corn gofio produced by the Molino de Gofio Buen Lugar has been recognised as the best in the archipelago by the tasting panel of the Agrocanarias 2025 competition.

This product, under the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Gofio Canario, was the regional winner at the event held on 30 and 31 July in La Palma, featuring 41 samples from eleven mills across the Canary Islands. A total of 18 awards were presented, including twelve medals and six special distinctions.

The winning gofio is produced in the Gran Canaria municipality of Firgas by Gofio Buen-Lugar, a company founded in 1958 that uses traditional stone milling techniques for its products.

For decades, the Almeida family’s expertise has been passed down through generations, underpinning their commitment to natural production that enhances the flavour, aroma, and texture of gofio while continually improving and modernising their processes, as reported by the Canary Islands government in a statement.

This year, the jury also awarded a special mention for the Best Local Grain Gofio of the Canary Islands 2025, along with a grand gold medal, to the chickpea production by La Molina José María Gil in Lanzarote.
