The Cabildo to allocate €20 million for strategic projects to modernise irrigation in the Valle de Güímar
The island institution, through the Department of Primary Sector, is working to consolidate and enhance irrigation systems with various projects under the Third Cycle Hydrological Plan
The Cabildo of Tenerife is allocating budget funds exceeding €20 million towards strategic projects for the modernisation of irrigation systems in the Valle de Güímar.
On Friday 19th, the Councillor for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, outlined in a plenary session the various initiatives that the Department is pursuing. The aim is to “consolidate and improve the irrigation systems of the Valle de Güímar, in the municipalities of Güímar, Arafo, and Candelaria, by implementing a range of initiatives, such as the delivery and pumping centre at the regional wastewater treatment plant, the pumping infrastructure (from the pumping station to the regulation tank for reclaimed water), the regulation tank for reclaimed water, and the distribution irrigation network.”
González noted that “due to the complexity involved in the establishment of a 100,000-cubic-metre tank, it has been separated from the distribution network project to prevent it from delaying its implementation.”
The Cabildo has requested the inclusion of this tank, which has a budget of €5.4 million, in the Tenerife Third Cycle Hydrological Plan, ensuring that the tank will serve as the head for the irrigation network, with a specific location and level.
Additionally, the island institution is promoting the construction of the water distribution network, with an investment of €15 million, across various phases, to address the consumption needs of the area.
Moreover, the launch of the reclaimed water desalination project is planned, with an expected cost of around €745,000.
