The Social Association Creciendo’s project, funded with €60,000, has already supported over 30 individuals and complements similar initiatives like Adislan’s supervised flat.
Visit by Local Authorities
The President of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, along with the Social Welfare Councillor, Marci Acuña, and the Deputy Councillor for Social Welfare of the Canary Islands Government, Francisco Candil, visited the adult life preparation and family respite flat run by the Social Association Creciendo in Playa Blanca.
A New Resource for Disabled Individuals
This facility, which has hosted over 30 people since it began operation, has received an approved funding of €60,000 from the Lanzarote Cabildo in 2025. It is designed to promote the autonomy of individuals with intellectual disabilities while providing respite for their families through temporary stays in a supportive and adapted environment.
President Betancort emphasised that this project “is no longer a pilot scheme, but a reality in Lanzarote.” He stated, “This house provides the autonomy these individuals need for their day-to-day development.” He also congratulated all the professionals involved in the Association, noting, “This resource improves the quality of life for people in Lanzarote.”
Support for Emancipation
Social Welfare Councillor Marci Acuña highlighted that it is “a flat for family respite and for the process of emancipation of individuals with intellectual disabilities.” He added that “it has demonstrated its effectiveness and aligns perfectly with the Island Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy and the policies of care and excellent attention that the Cabildo works on daily.”
Acuña underscored the crucial role that associations like this play in enhancing family wellbeing, stressing the Cabildo’s commitment to supporting such initiatives that solidify a vital support network in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Innovative Resources Initiated by Social Welfare
Through the Social Welfare Area, the Lanzarote Cabildo remains committed to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families via various innovative projects on the island. Notably, the Adislan supervised flat is also focused on preparing individuals for independent living and assisting in their transition to adulthood.
These resources are in addition to other social initiatives, such as strengthening dependency care programmes, investing in new residences and day centres, and providing financial support to third-sector entities that advocate for inclusion.
