The Extraordinary Plenary Approves the Rectification and Update of the General Inventory of Goods and Rights, a Precondition for the Transfer of Land to the Government of the Canary Islands
The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved the rectification and update of its General Inventory of Goods and Rights at an Extraordinary Plenary session on Wednesday, which had remained unreviewed since 2016. This unanimously supported measure will facilitate the processing of files related to the transfer of land to the Government of the Canary Islands for housing projects.
Commitment to Progress
The President of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that, “from the beginning of this legislature, we committed to keeping the inventory updated. Without this tool, it is impossible to advance in urban agreements or launch significant island projects. This approval marks a milestone in management,” he declared.
Overcoming Administrative Barriers
The Councillor for Housing, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, noted that the lack of inventory updates had hindered various procedures. “When the process began to transfer the 42 homes acquired in Yaiza and several plots to the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), the technical department warned of the impossibility of proceeding due to outdated documentation. In light of this, the Inventory team undertook an exhaustive review in recent months to update all the asset records of the corporation,” he explained.
Contributing to New Housing Developments
With the plenary approval of this rectification, the Cabildo completes one of the essential preliminary steps required to transfer public land to the regional government, thereby aiding in the construction of new homes on the island. The Housing Department underscores that the inventory update was not only an administrative requirement but also a crucial condition to meet the rising residential demand experienced in Lanzarote.
