The Cabildo Launches a Preventative Campaign to Promote Healthy Habits

This is a strategic initiative aimed at raising public awareness and complements the FARO Project as part of a comprehensive health policy

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Department of Education for Prevention, has publicly tendered one of the largest proposals for health awareness and prevention campaigns, due to the sustained increase in public health issues affecting the island’s entire population. This initiative is part of a broader strategy for health promotion and prevention spearheaded by the Cabildo, epitomised by the FARO Project, a roadmap focused on protection, prevention, information, and transformation.

“We do not intend to present this as a definitive solution, as structural health issues require multiple sustained responses. However, we know that communication, visibility, and preventive messages are key tools, and there is currently an evident imbalance: too many messages about ultraprocessed foods, energy drinks, vaping, or excessive consumerism, and far too few reminding us of the importance of caring for our physical, mental, and emotional health.” “This is a mass-action campaign because prevention cannot be marginal. We need messages where people are: on the streets, on phones, on buses, in schools, at festivals. We want to fill areas dominated by quick consumption advertising with health messages,” explained the councillor for Education for Prevention, Juan Acosta.

Campaigns with Purpose: Raising Awareness, Preventing, and Educating

The new advertising campaign package will strategically and comprehensively address three fundamental axes: mental health and healthy lifestyle habits; addiction prevention (vaping, alcohol, gambling, energy drinks, etc.); and affective-sexual education and risk reduction (use of condoms and detection tests).

The actions will be deployed throughout the island with a significant presence in media, educational spaces, public transport, leisure areas, sports centres, social media, and any other available platforms.

Public Health as a Priority

The development and execution of these campaigns will not occur in isolation. The active participation of the Canarian Health Service, specialised scientific societies, and third sector organisations with expertise in each of the addressed areas will be involved.

This collaborative approach ensures that messages are not only technically accurate but also socially relevant, culturally sensitive, and communicatively effective.

These campaigns are integrated into the educational strategy of the FARO Project, a pioneering initiative by the Cabildo already working in educational and community areas to foster critical reflection, youth empowerment, and health promotion at all levels. “This is the perfect combination: in-depth educational action with FARO, and a constant layer of mass awareness through these campaigns. We are building a real prevention ecosystem,” the councillor stated.

With this initiative, the Cabildo of Tenerife reaffirms its commitment to public health that does not wait for problems to escalate but acts beforehand, informs more, and cares better. This aims to put prevention at the heart of island policies and foster a more aware, critical, and healthy citizenry.
