The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is advancing two key infrastructures to ensure water security and enhance supply across the Island. These projects involve the renovation and expansion of the Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station and the construction of the Guerime Reservoir. Both initiatives are in the final stages of execution.

The Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station is on the verge of completing its renovation and expansion, with an investment of €777,500. This upgrade will optimise pumping capacity and ensure more efficient water transport to various population centres.
Meanwhile, the Guerime Reservoir has become a long-awaited landmark project. With an investment of €1,767,852.26, this new header reservoir will have a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, divided into two compartments. This will strengthen the distribution network and provide greater stability in water supply to homes and businesses in the municipality of Pájara.
The President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, highlighted that, “with these infrastructures, we reinforce water security in the south of the Island, addressing a long-standing demand from residents and ensuring an essential resource like water. This is crucial for the quality of life of families and the economic development of Fuerteventura.”
The projects are being developed by the Infrastructure Department of the island corporation, led by Blas Acosta, in coordination with the Water Supply Consortium of Fuerteventura.
The CEO of CAAF, Adargoma Hernández, emphasised that “the renovation of Marcos Sánchez and the Guerime Reservoir are part of a comprehensive strategy to modernise the island’s supply system, improving both efficiency and capacity to respond to the needs of the population.”
The Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, acknowledged the importance of these investments. “These are fundamental projects that ensure a stable and quality supply for the municipality of Pájara, benefiting both residents and strategic sectors such as tourism and agriculture.”
The Councillor for Public Works and Water, Alexis Alonso, stated that “with the Guerime Reservoir, we are responding to a demand that has spanned decades. This project marks a turning point in guaranteeing water supply for our people.”
Commitment to the Future
These initiatives are part of the roadmap of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and CAAF to modernise the supply network, reduce losses, and ensure a more stable supply, particularly in areas experiencing significant population and tourist growth.
Through these works, Fuerteventura is taking a decisive step towards a more efficient, sustainable, and future-ready water system.
