The Cabildo Invests €400,000 in the Acquisition of Eight New Vehicles for the Tenerife Volunteer Firefighters
The stations in La Laguna, Tegueste, Güímar, Adeje, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, and Los Realejos will be equipped with versatile pick-up vehicles
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Tenerife Fire Consortium, has invested €400,000 in the purchase of eight new vehicles for the volunteer firefighter stations in La Laguna, Tegueste, Güímar, Adeje, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, and Los Realejos. This initiative aims to enhance the resources available to its members, facilitating their work in fire prevention and extinguishment.
The President, Rosa Dávila, stated, “This is another initiative within Tenerife’s protection strategy—a firm decision to equip the island with all necessary resources to respond to any emergency.” She also thanked the volunteer firefighters who “balance their work and private lives while protecting our community.”
Vehicle Features
Each association will receive a lightweight pump mounted on pick-up vehicles, designed for versatility, costing €50,000 each. The Island Director of Security, Iván Martin, expressed, “Our commitment is to ensure people’s safety, and we continue to work on improving resources. In April, we provided the volunteers with advanced suits for interior and exterior interventions to enhance their response capability when needed.”
Each volunteer station will receive a pick-up vehicle equipped with a simple cabin and a lightweight forest pump. The primary use of each vehicle will be for surveillance, early detection, and intervention in vegetation fires, whether forest, agricultural, or interface, while also serving as preventive measures to avoid large fire outbreaks.
Moreover, the fire extinguishing kit’s capacity of 450 litres allows for the control of fires with up to 120-metre perimeters within 10 minutes. This, combined with its high penetration and speed, makes it an essential tool for extinguishing re-ignitions, secondary sources, combustible materials that can be displaced, and incipient fires, among others.
Support for Volunteer Associations
The provision of such units to the Volunteer Firefighter Associations significantly strengthens their support efforts during large fire emergencies. Professional teams will be deployed to active interface fronts, while volunteers will focus on surveillance, extinguishing, and securing other areas, all equipped with standardised tools that facilitate the implementation of techniques and procedures, enhancing the understanding of their capabilities by the Consortium’s management.
