The Cabildo launches 30 educational projects benefiting over 21,000 students on the island

The initiative is part of the ‘Tenerife Young and Educates’ programme and will provide over 6,000 hours of supplementary training

The Tenerife Cabildo’s Department of Employment, Education and Youth is launching a total of 30 educational projects through the “Tenerife Young and Educates” programme. These projects will reach 728 classrooms across all educational levels, equating to over 6,000 hours of supplementary training linked to the curriculum. The initiative aims to benefit 21,000 students from 250 educational centres throughout the island. The deadline for applications from educational centres is 23:00 on 6 October, with notifications about successful projects to be communicated on 15 October. This initiative falls within the interdepartmental project ‘Cabildo Educates’, which offers a total of 250 educational projects, involving different areas of the Cabildo of Tenerife to enhance the range of educational actions and projects in the island’s supplementary education field.

The programme was presented today (Thursday) at a press conference held in the Noble Hall, attended by the Councillor for Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, alongside the head of the service in this area, Jorge González.

Efraín Medina expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the department and stated that “this initiative from the Cabildo not only strengthens the curricular teaching but also prepares our youth for a future with more opportunities, equality, and innovation. We want Tenerife to be a benchmark for supplementary education and value formation.”

The councillor added that “each of these projects addresses a need identified in our schools: from the digital divide to values education and creativity enhancement. The intention is to provide our students with experiences that complete their academic training and prepare them to face the future with assurance.”

“We will continue to strengthen collaboration with educational centres and teachers because education is the best tool to ensure equal opportunities in Tenerife,” Medina concluded.

For his part, Jorge González highlighted the diverse offerings available to the island’s schools as supplementary training.

Focus on Coordination

Cabildo Educates will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2025 and represents an internal coordination process within the Tenerife Cabildo that aims to improve the pedagogical quality of educational projects developed by the various government areas through the Technical Education Board. The external result is the Cabildo Educates Catalogue, which presents more than 250 educational projects alongside their materials, teaching resources, and information in an accessible and organised manner. This process serves a dual purpose of coordination and dissemination. It seeks to enhance the methodological and pedagogical quality of projects developed by the Cabildo across all its areas while simultaneously improving communication and dissemination of these initiatives.

The Roadmap outlining its development until 2028 sets out priority tasks such as updating the catalogue, optimising working groups, and implementing new communication strategies. Additionally, concrete actions are proposed to strengthen the quality and outreach of educational projects, including the creation of a common pedagogical guide, enhancing virtual tools, and organising training days. This plan represents a renewed commitment to education as a driving force for development, fostering a critical and engaged citizenship in Tenerife.
