The Cabildo Takes Its Environmental Volunteering Activities to Santa Cruz, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, and Santiago del Teide
Beach clean-ups and underwater waste collection are among the initiatives
The Cabildo of Tenerife has scheduled four public activities aimed at protecting and conserving the environment. This week, the Office for Participation and Environmental Volunteering is coordinating initiatives in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz, Adeje, and Santiago del Teide. The councillor for Natural Environment, Blanca Pérez, emphasises that “the aim is to organise activities that contribute to the defence of the environment because those who take part not only help protect it, but also become a cornerstone of awareness regarding the natural world and the necessity to preserve and care for it in the best way possible.”
Among the highlighted activities, tomorrow (Wednesday 27) a new session of the ‘Eco-Healthy Walks’ project will take place. This involves an informative and educational stroll through various areas and spaces in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The activity is organised by the Montañeros de Nivaria Club, with the cooperation of the Santa Cruz+Sustainable Foundation.
On Saturday 30 August, a ‘Beach Cleaning Campaign’ will be held in Adeje, led by the Canary Green Association. This is a Shared Social Responsibility initiative from the Mynd Hotel, open to the public and supported by the local council. Meanwhile, Puerto de la Cruz will host an underwater waste collection. This activity, open to divers, is part of the Phe Sustainable Festival and is organised by the Phe Team and the Terramare Association, with cooperation from the northern council and Spanish Red Cross.
On Sunday 31, two proposals are planned. The first, conducted by the Montañeros de Nivaria Club and the Insular Federation of Mountaineering of Tenerife, involves a day as part of the ‘Custody of Mount Las Mesas’ project. The public can join an environmental walk and a waste collection in the lookout point of Santa Cruz in an initiative supported by the Santa Cruz+Sustainable Foundation.
Additionally, Santiago del Teide will celebrate a ‘Coastal Awareness Campaign’, which includes an environmental workshop and a waste collection at Playa de la Arena and its surroundings. This initiative is promoted by Landmar Costa Los Gigantes and Arena Hotels, along with the Terramare Association, supported by the southern council and the Teno Rural Park.
