The Cabildo Reinforces Its Support for Innovation and Sustainability through the ‘Ingenia’ Project
This initiative promotes innovation and entrepreneurship among university and vocational training students
The Cabildo of Tenerife participated this week in a meeting with teams involved in the sixth edition of the Ingenia programme, an initiative that fosters innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among university and vocational training students. The event provided an opportunity to review the progress of ongoing projects and explore new avenues for collaboration to ensure their sustainability.
Attendees included Efraín Medina, insular councillor for Employment, Education and Youth; Jorge González, head of service at the Cabildo; Julio Brito, manager of the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna; Cintia Hernández, director of the Vice-Rectorate for Sustainability and Infrastructure at ULL; Juan Antonio Rodríguez, academic director of Ingenia, and the programme’s technical team.
Efraín Medina, the insular councillor for Employment, Education and Youth, emphasised that Ingenia represents a strong commitment by the Cabildo to young talent, practical education, and a sustainable future. “We believe in the transformative power of youth to address the significant social and environmental challenges we face, and that is why we will continue to support these initiatives so they can grow and create a real impact on the island,” Medina added.
Progress and Challenges
During the session, teams presented their achievements and challenges faced. The proposals showcased a wide range of fields, including environmental protection, social inclusion, sustainable mobility, and healthy lifestyle habits:
- Little Guardians, bringing at-risk children closer to nature.
- CoralCheck, focusing on marine conservation and sustainable tourism.
- Heritage and Future: Women in Artisanal Fishing highlighted the role of women in this traditional sector, showcasing their historical and current contributions.
- Númidas Association, promoting the inclusion of immigrants through education and community participation.
- SIGRA, which transforms agricultural waste into ecological fertilisers.
- BlueFlow, featuring sustainable domestic aquaponics systems.
Additionally, other Ingenia projects were presented, such as Innovasolar, Charge Up Green, Digital Empowerment, and Eat Well, Live Better, which focus on clean energy, electric mobility, digital literacy, and healthy eating, respectively.
Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
This event consolidated the latest actions of the sixth edition of Ingenia, underscoring the importance of institutional collaboration to foster a more innovative, inclusive, and sustainable island. The initiative is promoted by the Vice-Rectorate of Students at the University of La Laguna and managed by its Foundation.
