Canaries Lowers Heat Alert to Pre-Alert Status as Temperatures Begin to Drop

The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has downgraded the heat alert to a pre-alert status this Sunday.

This weekend, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintained active warnings across the Canary Islands due to high temperatures and the presence of suspended dust. The warnings were issued at yellow level for both Saturday and Sunday.

Aemet also forecasts a “slight to moderate decrease” in temperatures for this Sunday, alongside expectations that the dust cloud will start to dissipate.

Temperature Forecast

As for temperature, maximums are expected to reach 29 degrees in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with minimums around 22 degrees. The wind “will be light to moderate from the north during the early hours, shifting to the northeast as the day progresses and increasing in intensity, with strong gusts in some areas,” they noted.
