Military Deployment to Combat Wildfires

A contingent of 16 specialists departed from the Gando Air Base in Gran Canaria on Thursday, 28 August.

The Canary Islands Air Command (MACAN) has announced the deployment of this team to replace personnel from other units of the Army of the Air and Space who have been actively fighting the severe wildfires affecting the northwestern regions of the Iberian Peninsula for several weeks.

Major General Francisco Javier Vidal Fernández, the commanding officer of MACAN, presided over the farewell of the contingent, wishing them well and underscoring the significance of their mission during this emergency.

This latest contribution adds to the operations that the Army has been conducting since 15 August, employing various aircraft, including a C-212, a C-295, and an A400. These aircraft have been instrumental in transporting military personnel and representatives from other public administrations from the Canary Islands to the mainland to assist in firefighting efforts.
