Canaries Set for Heatwave with Temperatures Up to 37°C
The Canary Islands will experience a day characterised by saharan dust and heat on Thursday, with temperatures expected to range between 24 and 37 degrees Celsius, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In islands such as Gran Canaria, maximum temperatures could reach 36°C inland, with local spots potentially hitting 37°C. In Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, maximums of 34 degrees are expected.
Alert
The alert for wildfire risks remains in place across the western islands and Gran Canaria at altitudes above 400 metres, while the pre-alert for high temperatures and saharan dust is active throughout the Canaries.
The Canary Islands Government, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, initiated this alert from 08:00 hours on Tuesday, 16 September, in accordance with the Special Civil Protection Plan for Wildfire Emergencies (INFOCA).
End of Pre-Alerts
On Wednesday, the Canary Islands Government announced the conclusion of the pre-alert for wind in the islands, as well as the pre-alert for coastal phenomena affecting the archipelago.
