The aim of this initiative is to create a space for reflection and debate on the state of mental health in the Canary Islands.
On the occasion of the International Day for Suicide Prevention, the Parliament of the Canary Islands will present a special video podcast on mental health on its official social media channels on 10 September at 10:00 am.
Focus on Mental Health
This initiative aims to open a space for reflection and debate on the state of mental health in the Canary Islands, with a particular focus on children and adolescents, a group increasingly facing issues such as anxiety, self-harm, and suicide attempts.
Video Podcast Details
The video podcast, moderated by the President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, will feature experts from various fields discussing topics such as bullying, the impact of social media, available healthcare resources, and the current challenges faced by families, teachers, and health professionals.

The following individuals will participate in the discussion:
- Fernando Gómez-Pamo Guerra del Río, Director General of Mental Health and Addictions of the Government of the Canary Islands.
- Marcos Val, police officer and tutor agent specialised in minors and bullying.
- Miguel Tomé, Vice-President of the Canary Mental Health Federation.
- Marian Álvarez, President of the Gran Canaria Federation of Parents and Mothers Associations.
- Dr. Manuel Ajoy, child and adolescent psychiatrist and coordinator of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit at the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.
