The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is to pay over £76,000 to the Community of Owners of the Aconcagua Car Park Building, following a firm ruling that recognises the damage caused by water leaks from the sports pitch of Casablanca III, located at Aconcagua Street s/n.

The ruling, issued on 3 December 2024 by the Administrative Litigation Court number 3, accepts the appeal lodged by the legal representatives of the community and orders the Municipal Institute for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Sport (IMD) to compensate with £59,575 for the damages caused, in addition to £16,660 in legal interest accrued since the initial claim in November 2019. The judicial resolution also includes the order to pay the legal costs.

The aforementioned sports facility has been affiliated with the IMD since September 2012 and, according to the ruling, the municipal responsibility is clear. Upon receiving the court order for execution, the organisation proceeded to process the payments from its budget allocations, allocating the principal amount and interest to the accounts for deposits and consignments of the competent court.

The president of the IMD, Carla Campoamor, signed the execution decree on 11 August 2025, accompanied by the manager of the organisation, Eloy García, and the chief official Domingo Arias. The document includes the obligation to comply with the ruling in its own terms, under the Regulatory Law of the Administrative Litigation Jurisdiction, warning that any non-compliance could result in penalties.

With this resolution, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria brings to an end a lengthy litigation initiated by the residents more than five years ago, resolving a conflict that arose from the structural damage and leaks caused by the poor condition of the Casablanca III pitch.
