Canary Islands Approves €3.87 Million for Sports Court Roofing in Seven Educational Centres

The Government Council of the Canary Islands has approved the contracting, expenditure, and opening of the awarding procedure for the project titled ‘Execution of Works for the Roofing of Seven Sports Courts’. The decision was made on Monday and involves a total budget of €3.87 million.

According to information provided by the regional government, this initiative is part of the plan to adapt educational centres to high temperatures. Its aim is to ensure that students have appropriate outdoor spaces for sporting activities throughout the year, shielded from solar radiation and adverse weather conditions.

This investment will facilitate the roofing of courts at several centres, including the Luis Cortí Early Childhood and Primary Education Centre (CEIP) in Santa María de Guía, Gran Canaria; Pájara and Cristóbal García Blairzy in Fuerteventura; and secondary education institutes (IES) such as César Manrique in Arrecife, Lanzarote; Teobaldo Power in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; IES Luis Cobiella Cuevas in Santa Cruz de La Palma; and Garoé in Valverde, El Hierro.

The approved budget, which will be allocated over several financial years from the designated funds for the aforementioned plan, encompasses various activities including foundation work, the installation of metal structures, partial demolitions, and accessibility modifications to ensure that the facilities meet the required technical standards.
