The Main Church of San Ginés hosted a solemn Eucharist today, Monday 25th August, in honour of San Ginés the Bishop, followed by a procession through the city centre attended by hundreds of devotees.

Both the Mayor, Yonathan de León, and the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio, present at both events alongside other public representatives, expressed their gratitude to the citizens for their participation, along with civil and military authorities, during this religious celebration on the feast day of the Patron Saint of Arrecife.

Yonathan de León recalled in a press release today that Arrecife became the capital of Lanzarote due to the existence of the San Ginés parish, which was instrumental in the establishment of Arrecife as a municipality, and subsequently as the island’s capital from the latter half of the 19th century. The mayor emphasized that “the history of Arrecife is intertwined with San Ginés the Bishop, and today the city celebrates his significant day.”

For his part, Echedey Eugenio highlighted “the citizen engagement and institutional support shown during this event, which underscores the fervour towards the patron saint of our city.” He also commended “the high level of participation recorded in the religious celebrations for the San Ginés festivities, as well as in the rest of the scheduled activities.”

The Eucharist was presided over by Aday Josué García Jiménez, parish priest of San Diego de Alcalá (Tuineje) and archpriest of Fuerteventura, while the procession was accompanied by the Banda Unión Musical de Lanzarote.
