Choreographer and Dancer Laura Ramírez Ashbaugh Presents ‘Oasis of Serenity’ at TEA Museum

This new event from the ‘Por Asalto’ programme, which is free to access, will take place this Saturday (20th) at 19:00 hours

Choreographer, dancer, educator, and DJ Laura Ramírez Ashbaugh will present ‘Oasis of Serenity’ at the TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes this Saturday (20th) at 19:00 hours. The artist explains that this work is a collision of mystical and cinematic visions, traversed by chemical currents, where the body exists in a state of constant crisis. There is no narrative, only sensations. Through this piece, Ramírez Ashbaugh explores the body in a state of chemical and anatomical crisis, overwhelmed by the grotesque imagery of the external world, while investigating the potential of physical states and mystical visions.

This event is part of the public live arts programme Por Asalto – a space for experimentation, convergence, and transdisciplinary encounters, curated by Sabela Mendoza, Mari Paula, Masu Fajardo, and Javier Arozena. Entry to this activity is free of charge. Oasis of Serenity – the artist explains – does not seek an ending but a continuation, an opening towards the unknown, a space where practice, ecstasy, and transformation coexist, always on the brink of arrival.

Laura Ramírez Ashbaugh (Madrid, 1988) is a choreographer, dancer, educator, and DJ, based in Madrid and Amsterdam, with roots in Ecuador, North America, and Spain. She recently graduated from the DAS Choreography master’s programme in Amsterdam and has trained at institutions such as the Martha Graham School, SNDO, and PAF. Her practice unfolds at the intersection of horror, hormonal experience, and sound, investigating how perception is altered and distorted by internal forces (such as hormones) and external stimuli. Through choreography, she explores unstable states of being, creating works intended not to be archived but to be inhabited, vibrated, and metabolised. She has performed in venues such as Mercat de les Flors, Tanzquartier, CPR, Replika Teatro, La Casa Encendida, Museo del Chopo, and CA2M, among others; since 2019, her work has navigated between theatre and museum spaces (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, IVAM, and Centro Botín).

Por Asalto aims to foster collective thought and experiences. These are actions with the ability to transform the spaces, times, and bodies within the hosting museum. It is an institution that aspires to be what we all desire; one that connects, proposes, and includes. A museum open to debate, dialogue, encounters, and opportunities. A place to come together, a shared space.
