Celebrating a Century of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Anniversary Celebration
The Círculo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife (CBATenerife) will celebrate its 100th anniversary this Sunday, marking the establishment of this private institution dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of art, culture, and critical thought, which took place on 7 September 1925.
The organisation has announced that the official celebration will occur at 11.30 a.m. on 11 September, with an event convened by the president, Pepe Valladares, along with members, authorities from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island, and the Canary Islands, as well as other invited guests.
A Rich Cultural Legacy
CBATenerife is a non-profit cultural entity founded on 7 September 1925. Since its inauguration, it has played a significant role in the realm of artistic creation and cultural dissemination.
Its first president was Francisco Bonnín, who took over from the Salón Frégoli and adopted the new name, as reported by the newspaper La Prensa in its edition of 8 September 1925.
Currently, the board of directors, following elections held in spring 2024, is headed by Pepe Valladares.
One of Spain’s Oldest Cultural Centres
The Círculo de Bellas Artes is one of the oldest private cultural centres in Spain. It is noted for its open-minded approach to innovative artistic movements and various creative fields.
Situated in one of the most iconic streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Calle del Castillo, number 43, a pedestrian area in the city centre, it operates as a multidisciplinary centre capable of hosting a wide range of activities—from visual arts to literature, science, philosophy, music, theatre, cinema, and performing arts.
Acknowledged Cultural Contributions
Its history and numerous cultural contributions have earned it the Gold Medal of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Currently, steps are underway for its declaration as an Entity of Public Interest.
Ready for a New Era
After a lengthy period of inactivity primarily due to necessary renovations of its building and compliance with various safety regulations, the Círculo de Bellas Artes is preparing to embark on a new phase under the concept “Nuevo Círculo,” coinciding with the celebration of its centenary in 2025.
