The political group highlights the perseverance of the people of Antigua “for their tireless fight against an action they deemed unjust.”

Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has announced in a press release that “it appreciates that Ministers Óscar López and Ángel Víctor Torres align themselves with the position of the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, to dismiss the proposed location for the telecommunications tower intended for Antigua. This change of direction by the current mayor will allow for the consideration of a new site that does not disturb residents.”

Following recent communications regarding negotiations with Tótem Towers in Madrid, the nationalist party celebrates that the Mayor of Antigua “has reconsidered and rejected the site that initially favoured the start of conversations with the telecommunications company.”

Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has consistently defended “the search for an alternative location, further away from residential areas, and has insisted on exhausting the dialogue with the company.” Hence, “we are grateful that a response has finally been given to the demands of both the residents of the municipality and this political formation.”

Most importantly, the AM-CC team emphasises the unwavering determination of the people of Antigua “for their tireless fight against an action they considered unjust.” “They have tirelessly insisted on preventing this infrastructure from being installed in the proposed location, merely 50 metres from homes, due to the potential impacts it could generate,” reiterate the island’s executive.

Furthermore, they acknowledge “the efforts of their councillors in the municipality, led by David Alberto Guerra, who initiated discussions with the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo. On August 13, Manolo Miranda, on behalf of the president, held an initial meeting with Tótem to explore alternatives. Since then, Manolo Miranda, Lola García, and David Alberto have been working together, under technical advice, to find a location that is technically feasible for establishing a new site away from the village,” the nationalists explain.

Thus, AM-CC considers “it a success that both the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and now also the Ayuntamiento de Antigua are moving in the same direction.” “This will facilitate the work of both the administrations and the technicians to respond to the population,” they add.

The Cabildo is working on alternatives to the initial location

Regarding possible new locations, the insular Corporation, led by Lola García, “has initiated procedures to make land available in the La Cerquita area, near the vehicle inspection station, and is also negotiating to purchase land near the water reservoir in Antigua. Both locations are technically viable for the installation of the telecommunications tower and are therefore candidates to be proposed to the company,” the note explains.

However, the political formation assures that these alternatives will remain open to community consensus, as well as to any new suggestions put forth by the citizens. For the AM-CC team, “this new period represents an opportunity to achieve a location that has the backing of both the administrations and the people of Antigua.”
