Family of Lanzarote Youth Repatriates Body Following Fatal Stabbing

The family of 17-year-old Yeray Sánchez-Morales from Lanzarote, who passed away on 3rd September in London after being the victim of a brutal attack, has successfully raised the funds needed to repatriate his body to Lanzarote. In total, the family has gathered £4,500 (€5,200) to provide a burial for the young man on the island.

Yeray lived in south-east London and had been involved with the events company TecnoSound Canarias during his stays on the islands over the past two summers.

According to reports, friends, family, acquaintances, and even individuals who did not know the young man, have contributed to this effort after the family set up a crowdfunding campaign for anyone wishing to donate towards the repatriation costs.

As a result, they have already received over £9,000 in donations, more than €10,000 in total. One of the young man’s cousins expressed deep gratitude for the love and generosity shown through donations and messages, stating, “Thanks to you all, we have achieved our goal and much more.”

Furthermore, he highlighted that Yeray’s legacy “is truly incredible: he touched so many lives… from the heart, thank you for supporting us and helping us to honour his memory.”

In statements to La Voz, Yeray Sánchez’s father explained that they are awaiting the release of his body by the morgue in order to bring him back to Lanzarote. Thus, they are still unsure when they will be able to say their final goodbyes.

Four Teens Charged

At present, according to the same source, the four minors facing charges are aged between 15 and 17. They have appeared in London courts accused of murder, grievous bodily harm, and possession of weapons. Their identities have not been disclosed due to their minor status.

The 15-year-old was the first to appear in court, attending the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, known as the Old Bailey, named after the street it is situated on. Following this, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds also appeared before the Bromley Magistrates’ Court, a first-instance court.
