Tinajo honours the Virgen de Los Dolores with festivities that transform Mancha Blanca into the heart of Lanzarote

The municipality of Tinajo once again becomes the focal point of Lanzarote with the celebration of the traditional Festivities in honour of the Virgen de Los Dolores, the island’s patron saint. The programme, presented this Friday at the entrance of the church of Los Dolores, includes religious, cultural, sports, and musical activities that will take place until 15 September in Mancha Blanca.

Present at the launch were the mayor Jesús Machín, the councillor for Festivities Jonathan Pérez Olivero, the Council’s Craft Councillor Aroa Revelo, as well as representatives from CD Tinajo, this year’s announcers, and the parish priest Francisco José García.

Mayor Jesús Machín encouraged participation in the festivities, stating that “each year attracts visitors from all over the Canaries and the Peninsula,” and urged “to maintain tradition in clothing, civility, and respect during all events.”

A Craft Fair with over 120 Creators

One of the main attractions will be the 36th edition of the Insular Craft Fair, opening its doors on 10 September with over 120 craftsmen and craftswomen from across the archipelago, establishing itself as one of the most important events in the Canaries. Councillor Aroa Revelo highlighted the fair’s identity value and presented a new promotional video for the pilgrimage produced by the Council, along with the chapel.

A Diverse Programme for All Audiences

The festivities began on 1 September with sporting activities and traditional workshops, continuing with offerings for all ages:

  • 5 September: Foam party, hiking, and basketball tournament.
  • 9 September: Announcement by CD Tinajo in its 50th anniversary featuring performances by Ciro Corujo, Adrián Niz, and Alexis Lemes.
  • 10 September: Official inauguration of the Craft Fair.
  • 11 September: Comedy night with Yanely Hernández and Guarapo Gomero, children’s playback, and tribute to Joaquín Sabina.
  • 12 September: Folkloric Meeting Nanino Díaz Cutilla, featuring groups from all the islands.
  • 13 September: Offering to the Virgen de Los Dolores and Dance of the Romero.
  • 14 September: Concert by Vanesa Martín and a popular fiesta.
  • 15 September: Solemn Mass led by Monsignor José Mazuelos, closing of the Craft Fair, and concerts by Los Sabandeños, Olga Cerpa and Mestisay, and Rosana Arbelo.

A Festival for All of Lanzarote

The councillor for Festivities, Jonathan Pérez Olivero, and the mayor, Jesús Machín, invited the public to participate in these festivities that “unite tradition, music, religiosity, and culture in one space.” The parish priest Francisco José García was also recognised for his efforts and dedication in organising the religious events.

The Fiestas de Los Dolores 2025 reinforce the role of Mancha Blanca as a meeting place and site of devotion for all residents of Lanzarote, with a pilgrimage that draws thousands each year in honour of the island’s patron saint.
