Cupra Pays Tribute to Fuerteventura with the Tindaya Prototype

As Radio Insular Fuerteventura announced exclusively months ago, Cupra has confirmed the launch of the Cupra Tindaya, a prototype that the brand will officially unveil at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, taking place from 8 to 14 September.

The model is named after the Tindaya Mountain, a site of great cultural and symbolic significance for the locals of Fuerteventura. Cupra justifies this choice by highlighting that “its stone surface, with coppery hues, evokes the essence of Cupra, while its unrefined shape connects with the materials and textures in the brand’s design language”.

The company has yet to reveal full images or technical details of the vehicle, but it has previously indicated that the Tindaya show car is inspired by the dramatic character of the mountain bearing its name. According to the brand, the model aims to represent a radical yet straightforward idea: “No drivers, no Cupra”, implying that the essence of the brand only makes sense with the driver at the helm.

This concept car is described as the ultimate expression focused on the driver, providing an experience that transcends electric mobility. In the brand’s own words, it seeks “the perfect symbiosis between human and machine, where driving and emotions reach their peak”.

The Cupra Tindaya will be one of the major highlights at the German show, where launches from other brands such as Opel, Mercedes, Volkswagen, and BMW are also expected. However, in Fuerteventura, the announcement has generated special interest, as it is not the first time that Tindaya Mountain has inspired internationally significant projects.

Situated in the municipality of La Oliva, the mountain is regarded as a sacred place by the indigenous Canary Islanders and has always been associated with strong cultural and spiritual symbolism. Its selection as the name for a Cupra prototype not only places the island on a global stage but also opens up discussions regarding the use of heritage references in the industry.

While the definitive model does not yet have a launch date or confirmation of mass production, the media impact of the announcement has already positioned Fuerteventura at the forefront of the conversation surrounding the future of electric mobility.
