CXH highlights the state of neglect and abandonment of Haría Viewpoint.

The municipalist formation Compromiso por Haría (CXH) has denounced this Thursday in a press release the situation they claim exists due to a lack of maintenance of the Mirador de Haria, one of the most important tourist and social enclaves in the municipality, causing its deterioration. Thus, they criticise that, in addition to its closure for the entire month of July, the state of the installation continues to be one of total neglect.

“The closure of the Mirador Haría throughout July is yet another symptom of the lack of planning and seriousness of Alfredo Villalba’s government. Furthermore, at this moment, the state of the infrastructure is deplorable, with many of its facilities in absolute disrepair and posing a risk to the safety of visitors,” argues their spokesperson, Chaxiraxi Niz.

The organisation, which has attached graphic evidence regarding the state of El Mirador, reminds us that during the entire month of July, Alfredo Villalba’s government “not only had the unfortunate idea of closing the Mirador in one of the months of highest visitor influx to the municipality, but also lied by saying this closure was due to maintenance works,” they assert.

Municipal motion to revitalise the Mirador

The organisation has announced that it will present a motion to revitalise the space with the aim of ensuring its proper maintenance and uninterrupted use. “It is essential to seek a specific purpose for the Mirador de Haria, as it currently remains underutilised. From CxH, we believe that this space could be enhanced as a strategic point for the promotion of culture and heritage in our municipality. Another viable option would be to sit down with the Cabildo of Lanzarote to explore the possibility of them taking over its management and operation, thus leveraging their resources and experience in this type of infrastructure,” Niz points out.

“We must put an end to the apathy of Alfredo Villalba’s government, which affects crucial matters for the municipality, such as the closure of first-rate monumental facilities. We will present a motion for the Mirador de Haria to receive maintenance, cleaning, and constant use, befitting what the municipality of Haría deserves,” concludes Chaxiraxi Niz.
