We invite you to experience the magical Dance of the Devil in Tijarafe, a vibrant and explosive festival declared a Cultural Heritage Asset, part of the Candelaria festivities.

The Highlight of the Celebrations

The most eagerly awaited moment of the Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria occurs in the main square during the early hours of 8th September. Incorporated in 1923, the event features the so-called Dance of the Devil. As the name suggests, the central figure is a malevolent incarnation, who spews fireworks all around. The Devil’s entrance is heralded by a procession of giants and oversized figures that crash into the festivities unannounced.

A Fiery Spectacle

Following approximately twenty minutes of frenetic pyrotechnics, the performance culminates in the dramatic explosion of the Devil’s head, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.

Creating a Magical Atmosphere

This representation takes place in the main square, becoming the focal point of attention. As night falls, the giants and oversized figures initiate the countdown, generating an atmosphere of heightened anticipation among the attendees. When the Devil finally appears, the scene transforms into a vibrant spectacle of lights and fire, perfectly synchronised with captivating music, keeping everyone present spellbound.
