Tragedy on Lanzarote’s Beaches: Another Near-Drowning Incident
As reported by this newspaper since the beginning of the year, particularly during the summer months, the beaches of Lanzarote have become extremely hazardous. This is especially true for some swimmers who ignore red flags and warning signs. It seems there is not a day that passes without reports of serious incidents in the sea or, sadly, fatalities.
Recent Near-Drowning Incident
This Saturday, according to the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency Coordination Centre, a woman nearly drowned at Papagayo beach in the municipality of Yaiza. Just a couple of days earlier, another woman had tragically died nearby at Playa Dorada.
At 11:59 am, the Coordination Centre received an alert regarding a woman in distress in the water who had been rescued by a leisure boat. The emergency services were activated immediately.
A person who identified herself as a nurse aboard the vessel provided initial care to the victim while they transported her to Marina Rubicón. Once ashore, staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended to her and transferred her to Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital due to symptoms of incomplete drowning.
The official report indicates that the victim exhibited moderate symptoms of incomplete drowning, barring any complications.
Local police from Yaiza and Civil Guard officers were also present at the scene.
