Canarias Declares Prealert Status for Dust in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria
The General Directorate of Emergencies in the Canary Islands has declared a prealert status for dust in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and the eastern, southern, and western highlands of Gran Canaria, starting at 6:00 PM on Saturday, 6 September.
According to the regional government, this decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan for Weather-Related Adverse Phenomena Risks (PEFMA).
As a result, there is a likelihood of airborne dust in variable amounts, with the possibility of its presence at mid-altitude or coastal levels.
Additionally, visibility may be reduced, potentially exacerbating health issues for individuals with chronic and/or respiratory conditions.
