The PSOE in Tenerife has highlighted the investment planned by Aena for Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport under the Airport Regulatory Document (DORA) for 2027-2031, which amounts to €250 million.

The General Secretary of the Tenerife Socialists, Tamara Raya, emphasised that this is “a historic and strategic investment for the island, which will transform Los Rodeos Airport and prepare it to meet the traffic, security, sustainability, and comfort needs of the coming decades.”

Raya noted that the management of the Government under Ángel Víctor Torres in the Canary Islands and Pedro Martín in the Tenerife Cabildo was pivotal for the DORA to include investments for the Tenerife airports in the 2027-2031 period.

Key Developments

The plan, which will increase the current terminal area by more than 40%, includes the expansion of all essential areas:

  • Check-in and the number of counters.
  • Security controls.
  • Boarding area and number of gates.
  • Baggage collection area and number of carousels.
  • Parking and access to the airport, coordinated with the TF-5 project.

Raya highlighted that “the modernisation of Los Rodeos will respect the architectural uniqueness of the terminal and will enhance service quality and energy efficiency, in line with Aena’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030.”

In addition to the terminal upgrades, new parking areas are planned in front of the main building, with spaces for long-term stays, rental vehicles, staff, and public transport.

A Broader Context

The socialist leader reminded everyone that Aena is the largest airport company in the world by passenger numbers and market capitalisation. This investment is part of a broader €12.888 billion plan across Spain that “ensures our airports remain benchmarks in safety, sustainability, and competitiveness.”

“For Tenerife, it is excellent news that there is a commitment to a key airport for our connectivity, which is also the gateway to the metropolitan area and a driver of employment and economic and social development,” concluded Raya.
