A total of 10,309 schoolchildren in Tenerife were protected yesterday by educational authorities in an effort to minimise their exposure to the detrimental effects of the severe weather that has plagued the Islands since last Tuesday, which reached its peak yesterday. It is hoped that, as predicted by Aemet, this oppressive episode of high temperatures and notable dust haze will come to an end tomorrow.

These preventive measures, implemented by the Canary Islands Department of Education, benefited a total of 6,657 schoolchildren attending seven centres where face-to-face classes were suspended (although online classes continued), as reported by this newspaper yesterday.

Additionally, another 3,652 pupils from the Island attending other schools were allowed to leave their classrooms earlier than usual, thereby reducing their exposure to these adverse weather conditions.

It is also worth noting that in Lanzarote, an early exit was declared for a total of 1,100 students across four centres.
