The Cabildo Allocates Nearly €400,000 to Relaunch the Deporte Joven Programme

The initiative includes the organisation of various sports activities aimed at secondary education students in Tenerife

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Department of Sports, will relaunch the Deporte Joven programme for the 2025/2026 school year. This project was approved today, 17 September, in the Government Council, with an annual budget of €375,343, announced the Vice President and Tourism Minister of the Insular Corporation, Lope Afonso.

The Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, stated that “the Cabildo is fully committed to promoting this programme, collaborating with educational centres to expand the physical-sporting activities offered to students, in line with the ‘Active People’ and ‘Active Society’ pillars of our ongoing action plan ‘Tenerife Activa’.”

The Deporte Joven programme aims to organise various sports activities targeted at the secondary education population of Tenerife. The primary objectives include developing healthy habits and lifestyles among school students, fostering team spirit and school integration, promoting an appreciation for active and healthy leisure among young people, and helping educational centres complement their educational and sporting roles within the community. Ultimately, it aims to ensure that physical exercise recommendations for adolescents are met, providing an appropriate and engaging offer that aligns with their interests and motivations, emphasised Afonso and Moliné.

The programme will feature the organisation of inter-centre meetings for ultimate frisbee and athletics, as well as the introduction of hiking days in natural settings and nautical activities throughout the school year. This initiative aims to value our natural resources and cultivate respect for the environment among students through physical and sporting activities.

The bidding process, which will be published in the State Contracting Platform in the coming days, particularly values aspects aimed at increasing student participation from secondary educational centres in these sports activities specifically designed for them.
