Fuerteventura Cabildo Collaborates with Local Authorities on Natural Park Management
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura met on Thursday with political and technical representatives from the six municipalities on the island to continue working on the drafting of management documents for the island’s natural parks, the institution reported in a statement.
Current Progress and Draft Submission
During the meeting, attended by the Cabildo President, Lola García, the Territorial Planning Councillor, Nereida Calero, other island councillors, and municipal representatives, the current status of the process was presented.
At this stage, the Cabildo has received a first draft prepared by the drafting team, which has already been reviewed by the island’s technical experts, who have proposed a series of possible amendments. Simultaneously, municipalities have been asked to also examine the document with their technical teams and submit any contributions or corrections they deem necessary.
Future Steps
The aim is for all municipal proposals to be submitted to the drafting team by September, allowing them to assess their feasibility and integration into the final document.
President García emphasised that “this is a coordination effort with all local administrations to ensure that the future management document reflects the realities and needs of each municipality, with a consensual and technical approach.”
Furthermore, the Territorial Planning Councillor, Nereida Calero, highlighted that “the management of natural parks is not merely a technical issue, but also a commitment to preserving our environment, and we must balance conservation with responsible land use.”
This step allows the Cabildo to stay ahead of usual timelines, ensuring that municipalities have sufficient information in advance to work more diligently on their proposals.
